3 BOARDS SMASHED IN SUPER SUNDAY SWELL

3 BOARDS SMASHED IN SUPER SUNDAY SWELL

Super Sunday wasn’t here to make friends.

Għajn Tuffieħa woke up angry, thick, low-period walls detonating out of nowhere, head-on wind chopping the faces to bits, and a high tide that turned the entry into a sketchy little boss fight before you even got wet. The kind of day where you either stay on the cliff shaking your head… or you paddle out knowing something’s probably not coming back in one piece.

Only the brave. Or the nuts. Mostly both.

The waves were big but unruly. Fast takeoffs, no rhythm, zero forgiveness. Sets stacked on top of each other, closing out just when you thought you’d found a corner. Wipeouts weren’t graceful; they were chaotic, pinball-style beatings with plenty of time to think about your life choices on the way down.

Carlo, somehow, threw the entire playbook straight into the sea.

No overthinking. No hesitation. Just point, go, deal with it later. He tamed anything that stood up, threaded a few heavy ones, and even found himself barreled at one point, in conditions where most people were just trying not to get folded in half. Calm, fast, surgical. Like he’d surfed this exact mess in a previous life.

The ocean, however, demanded payment.

First victim: Victor. One awkward moment, and suddenly his board had a fresh fin slash, a clean reminder of who was really in charge. Quick tape job, a little laugh, zero drama, straight back out. Respect.

Then came Dario. He got proper bombs, the kind that make the paddle worth it, but the exit was brutal. The leash wrapped the fin, the wave did the rest, and the fin box got yanked clean out. That horrible, unmistakable feeling. Game over. New board needed.

Adriano didn’t escape either. His board took an absolute hiding on the right-hand rocks, almost snapped, nose damaged, rail blown, and a massive gash straight through the body. Open-heart surgery territory. Still, he managed to score some serious waves before the carnage. Worth it? Ask him once the repair quote comes in.

Hadri and Luiz stayed busy, navigating the madness with style, while Nico went full wildcard on a foamie and somehow made it work. Smiles, chaos, survival surfing at its finest.

Fast rides. Heavy falls. Boards sacrificed.

Super Sunday didn’t care who you were, it just took what it wanted and kept firing. And gladly we were on hand filming for the Wave of Winter comp! Keep those clips coming! Oh and btw, seeing the crew at POPP later always makes the salt go down easier! I think I drank about 3 pints of sea water myself.
