BOMBA Heads to Portugal as Accredited Media for the 2026 WSL Championship Tour

A surf magazine born in the Malta, the Mediterranean is heading to Supertubos. This October, BOMBA will be on the ground in Peniche as accredited media for the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal. And yeah, this one feels fucking good.

There are moments when you stop looking at what you're trying to build and realise, for a second, that maybe it actually is building. This is one of them.

BOMBA will be heading to Peniche, Portugal, for the 2026 MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal, part of the World Surf League Championship Tour, with five members of our crew accredited as media for the event.

For a little independent surf magazine coming out of Malta and the Mediterranean, that's a sentence we're pretty fucking happy to write.

From the Mediterranean to the WSL Championship Tour

BOMBA wasn't born beside some endless Pacific swell.

We're from the Med.

Our home waves are fickle. Forecasts are dissected for days. A good swell can disappear overnight. People surf before work, after work, between storms and whenever the sea decides to give us something.

And somehow, from that little corner of surfing, we're heading to one of the biggest stages in the sport. The MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal brings the world's best surfers to Supertubos in Peniche, one of Europe's most famous waves and one of the most recognisable stops on the WSL Championship Tour.

From October 16-25, 2026, we'll be there covering it. Not watching from Malta. Not recycling clips from Instagram. There, beachside.

What BOMBA will be doing in Portugal

Obviously we'll cover the surfing.

The heats. The barrels. The upsets. The ridiculous stuff that happens when the world's best surfers get handed proper Supertubos. But BOMBA has never really wanted to be a results service. We're going to Portugal for everything around the contest too. The conversations in car parks. The boards under people's arms. The surfers once the jersey comes off. The characters around Peniche. The photographers. The freesurf sessions. The strange little moments between heats that normally disappear when the broadcast cuts away.

Oh and we also want to drink, surf and enjoy a holiday!

We want to show what being around a Championship Tour event actually feels like, the bomba way.

See you in Peniche

Portugal has always occupied a special place in European surfing, and Supertubos needs very little introduction. Now we get to experience it from the inside.

Five media passes. One BOMBA crew. Cameras, notebooks, probably too much coffee (and beer) and ten days around some of the best surfers on Earth.

We're excited and grateful.

And if we're allowed one completely unprofessional editorial moment:

Fuck yes.

See you in Peniche.
