Last month all kicked off with the beautiful news that a turtle returned to Ghajn Tuffieha Bay to lay her batch of eggs! The only trouble was due to the massive incoming swell, volunteers from ESA Malta and Nature Trust Malta had to carefully transfer the eggs to Golden Bay, right next to another batch!
Job done, but that swell was still incoming. And what a swell it turned out to be! A bunch of surfers joined more volunteers to build a massive wall with sandbags to protect the nests, giving the turtles a fighting chance of survival. We’ve had no less than six turtles come to our local shores to lay eggs this summer, and this is truly wholesome and wonderful news.

After the work… a super surf session was well deserved and Flynn and I hit the waves at Golden Bay. The massive, clean waves which everyone ignored for the swell at Ghajn Tuffieha. Two surfers only became six throughout the evening, tiny numbers in comparison to the other bay, which keeps getting more crowded during the summer.
Slackline revival
After the swell came a long period of calm conditions but as we all scratched our heads in boredom, Damian Debinski had other ideas: Slacklining. Two incredible Sundays were spent practising and learning down south as surfers continued where the old Slackline Community left off… with Damian proving to be the bridge between two generations, alongside Mark Napier and Danny Mainwaring whose talent on the line is remarkable. I got mega nostalgic in the Slackline blog, re-living amazing memories with old good friends from almost a decade back.

Joe Turpel X BOMBA interview
The lack of surf continued to make your editor itch, but sometimes a calm period can force us to think outside the box for fun. Queue one of the most amazing moments in this magazine’s history: an interview with the voice of the WSL himself, Joe Turpel.
I can’t quite put into words just how amazing that was. Joe is one of my heroes. He’s an amazing surfer, but also an incredible voice for the sport and a truly talented journalist. Our mission is similar, so picking his brains was a blessing. It’s not every day you get to meet your heroes, so I am eternally grateful for this unique friendship we’ve carved out between Bomba, Malta’s surf magazine, and the WSL. From one island to another Joe, Mahalo!
I guess I’ll let him do the talking once all the content is released. Look out for a full-length pod featuring Joe and me, mini clips, and some Bomba articles! I’m really excited to share them all, but I will take some time on these bits!

… and we’ve got another interview coming your way. One of our youngest and brightest surfers, Flynn Mifsud, and I also caught up over two sessions, car rides, and a beach interview! He’s awesome and is quickly becoming one of the best surfers on the island. Bring it on!
New T-shirt Launched: LESS WORK MORE SURF
Of course, creativity didn’t limit itself to interviews, with a new Less Work More Surf T shirt launched on the Bomba shop! Remember we ship worldwide, so order yours in heavy cotton when you wish!
The BOMBA shack is currently teeming with merch, and we love seeing you rock yours in the wild.

Back to surf
And after all that, something magical happened: A full moon brought four days of amazing surf at the end of July! GT was pumping, and we all loved a summer surf, despite busier than usual lineups. We had drop-ins galore, but importantly, heaps of fun too! Keep it loose out there guys and gals, and respect the rules!
Olympic Month
The Paris Olympics then took us to the magical islands of French Polynesia for the Olympics as the world’s best compete for gold. We dropped a new poster for that, too; thanks for ordering your prints from BOMBA!

July had it ALL! It was absolutely titanic, and as we roll into August, who knows what’s coming! Stay tuned, stay loose and stay wild!
