The Quiksilver & ROXY Junior Pro Capbreton, the second stop on the European Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), recently concluded, showcasing the immense talent of young surfers. Held at Plage Santocha, Capbreton, from July 3-5, 2025, the event celebrated the future of surfing, with impressive performances and a strong community spirit.

The Landes region has a rich history with surfing, deeply intertwined with the Quiksilver brand. Nicolas Foulet, Boardriders Europe CEO, emphasized that nurturing emerging talent is a core mission for Quiksilver and ROXY. These Pro Junior events provide young athletes with crucial competitive experience, enhance their skills, and deepen their connection to the surfing culture.
Xavier Fortinon, President of the Landes Departmental Council, highlighted the commitment of local communities, particularly Capbreton, in supporting the event. He noted that the Junior Tour serves as a crucial stepping stone for future professional champions, aligning with the region’s sports policies.
Stéphane Marteau, Event Organiser and Director of MC Box Events, expressed pride in bringing the Junior Pro back to Capbreton, calling it a symbolic milestone. Louis Galdos, Mayor of Capbreton, reiterated the town’s long-standing loyalty and passion for the event, emphasizing its role in continuing a cherished tradition and supporting young surfers.
Former World Tour surfer and local legend, Miky Picon, served as the event’s "godfather." Wildcards were assigned to local talents Hugo Flori, Ethan Fernandez, Lee-Ann Boudine, and Charlie Leguay.
Day One Highlights: Stellar Performances
The opening day of competition saw impressive performances despite small waves. The men’s and women’s Quarterfinals were decided, setting the stage for thrilling finals.
Women’s Division Standouts:
- Naïa Monte (FRA): Delivered the highest heat total of 14.83, including an 8.00, showcasing excellent control.
- Lua Escudeiro (POR): Scored the highest single wave in the Round of 32 with an 8.33, contributing to a 14.16 total.
- Maria Salgado (POR): The winner of the previous JQS stop in Ferrol, advanced to the Quarterfinals, aiming for another strong result.
- Carla Morera De La Vall (ESP) & Anais Blanchard (FRA): Also advanced to the Quarterfinals.
- Lee-Ann Boudine (FRA): Local wildcard who made it to the Quarterfinals.
Men’s Division Standouts:
- Hans Odriozola (ESP): Secured an excellent 8.33, leading to a 14.00 total in his heat.
- Brando Giovannoni (ITA): Scored an 8.17, demonstrating a strong comeback in his heat.
- João Mendonça (POR) & Francisco Ordonhas (POR): Top contenders who advanced to the Quarterfinals.
Notably, Ferrol Junior Pro winner Alfonso Suarez (ESP) and Matias Canhoto (POR) faced early exits, highlighting the competitive nature of the event.
