We’re launching something small with big intentions and you’re invited to the launch!
On Thursday, 8th August, BOMBA is teaming up with Zibel and Singita to kick off Wave Waste, a community-powered project aimed at keeping our beaches clean and giving new life to ocean plastic.
At the entrance to the bay, right next to the lifeguard tower, you’ll notice something new: a sleek new bin, designed just for ocean waste. It’s pretty and pink, with a surfer shredding on it – you can’t miss it.
Why is it there? Any plastic you find in the sea now goes inside it! It’s your drop-off point for that specific trash, whether after a surf session, a swim, or a beach walk.
From Wave Waste to Creation
Here’s the big idea: we’re not just removing waste, we’re transforming it. All the plastic collected will be processed by Zibel and turned into something surf-related. Fins? Wax combs? Fin keys? Surfboard racks for your home? We’re open to suggestions. Got an idea? Drop us a comment, we’d love to hear from you. Once the bin is full, we’ll run a poll on our IG stories to collect your votes.
To launch the campaign, we’re inviting the community to join us for:
🗓 Friday, 8th August
🕡 6:30pm onwards
📍 The bay entrance (near the lifeguard tower)
We’ll kick things off with a few words from BOMBA, Zibel, and Singita about why this matters. Then, we’ll roll up our sleeves for a mini cleanup using mesh bags provided by Zibel, which are perfect for solo surfers and beach lovers to reuse over time.
Singita Sunset Drinks
And of course, it wouldn’t be a BOMBA event without a proper hang. We’ll wrap up the evening with drinks and snacks at sunset, thanks to our friends at Singita – who, by the way, run a plastic-free kitchen and are leading the front on keeping Ghajn Tuffieha Bay nice and clean, with DAILY, yes daily clean ups! – respect!
This is just the beginning
Wave Waste is a long-term effort. The bin will remain on site for regular community use, and the plastic collected will fuel a creative, collaborative project that blends sustainability with surf culture. We’ll share updates on the transformation process as we go.
Together, we can ride waves and clean them too.
See you at sunset.
