Cerritos Surf Open Returns to Baja California Sur in November 2026

The World Surf League’s Pacífico Surf Open Cerritos is set to return to Playa Los Cerritos in Baja California Sur from Nov. 19–22, 2026. This four-day competition will bring 120 surfers to El Pescadero for a men’s qualifying-series event, alongside live music and community activities celebrating the region’s surf culture.

This event is scheduled to be the only WSL competition in Mexico in 2026, combining international competition with a spotlight on Mexican surfers and local tourism.

The 2026 Cerritos showdown

The Pacífico Surf Open Cerritos will hold its third edition at Playa Los Cerritos, drawing competitors from around the world. Organizers plan a festival featuring live music and community events alongside the four days of surfing. Tourism officials note the gathering promotes Baja California Sur as a sports-tourism destination, introducing visitors to its coastal setting and beach culture.

The contest is a men’s Qualifying Series event at the QS 2,000 level. This designation means 2,000 ranking points are available to the winner, offering a significant opportunity for surfers to advance their standing.

Mexican talent in the lineup

Several established Mexican competitors are already confirmed for the 2026 event. Colima-born Alan Cleland Jr. won gold at the 2023 International Surfing Association World Surfing Games. Puerto Escondido’s Jhony Corzo earned the same title in 2017. Sebastian Williams, also from Puerto Escondido, and La Paz surfer Lucas Cassity are also expected to compete.

Cassity drew strong regional support at the 2024 edition, finishing on the podium alongside Williams. His return gives local fans a homegrown competitor to follow at the 2026 contest.

Baja's rich Surf history

Surfing has been part of Baja California Sur’s appeal since the 1950s. A prominent early competition was the 1991 Fletcher Los Cabos Classic, held at the Zippers break in San José del Cabo. A teenage Kelly Slater won that event, which also inspired two surf films.

Major competition returned to the state in 2013 with the Los Cabos Open of Surf, a men’s qualifying event that ran for six years before ending after its 2018 edition. The Cerritos Open adds a newer chapter to that history, bringing a WSL event back to the region and directing attention to a different stretch of the Baja California Sur coast.
