Razo’s QS 2,000 Reaches the Semifinals After a Dramatic Day in the Surf
The Edommo Surf Pro Razo QS 2,000 reached the semifinals after challenging conditions and major upsets, including Francisco Ordonhas’ quarterfinal exit.
Rankings leader gets the boot
The biggest news from the men's quarterfinals was European QS leader Francisco Ordonhas getting sent packing by Thomas Debierre. Debierre took control early and held on, ending Ordonhas' campaign after he had advanced through the earlier rounds.
Yago Dominguez also advanced, winning an all-goofy-footed matchup against Andy Criere with a combined 14.17 points. Other notable performances from earlier rounds included Kai Odriozola’s 14.33 heat total and Enzo Cavallini’s excellent 8.83 ride. The men’s semifinalists include Dominguez, Debierre, and two other quarterfinal winners not identified in the supplied updates.
Women's draw heats up
On the women's side, Nahia Milhau pulled an excellent 8.17-point ride to take down Maelys Jouault, despite having little backup score. Milhau is set for a semifinal rematch against Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri, a repeat of their YETI Pro final.
Ariane Ochoa scraped past Alys Barton in a low-scoring heat and is slated to face Lua Escudeiro in the semifinals. Barton had been in strong form, including an 8.67 ride and a 15.50 heat total in the Round of 32. So, the women's final four are Milhau, Ochoa, Escudeiro, and Etxabarri.
The contest began in two-to-three-foot surf, with Alys Barton and Maelys Jouault among the standout performers in the earlier rounds. Conor Donegan Dos Santos defeated Hans Odriozola, and Lukas Skinner advanced with a high wave count.
