The MSA held their annual skate comp King of the Park in July at the Msida Skatepark, with 16 skaters competing for the coveted crown on the concrete jumps.
We were treated to an absolute spectacle with tricks galore and brilliant live bands keeping the vibes high. Beers, skate and live music in the sun, what more could we wish for?
The final came down to two, local legend Zach Perici Calascione, president of the MSA and Canadian Giovanni Websto, who’s only been on the island for three months.
And what a final. Played in the traditional S-K-A-T-E-B-O-A-R-D game, each skated got a letter if his competitor out tricked him. And these boys were neck and neck, holding 9 letters each, much to the crowd’s amusement.

In the end, local power proved too strong, with Zach pinning Websto on the tabletop jump, landing his Nose manual 180out perfectly
“Yeah man, what a final, I even learned three new tricks from Websto just today” said a breathless Zach after claiming victory.
The finalists bagged epic prizes from Urban Jungle, but only one got to sit on the thrown of decks and wear a custom crown hand crafted from more discarded decks.

“I was sick and dropped 6kg coming into this week, so it was tough”. Hardly ideal prep so you have to appreciate the grind from the Champ.
Pressed whether or not he’s going for a third successive title next season, Zach admitted he wasn’t sure. So savor this local legend fans, or try to convince him to return next season!
Of course the night couldn’t have ended any sweeter, with Myles and his band playing super tunes, including a rock rendition of the national anthem and Coolios Gangers Paradise.
