Oh ye, we’ve got this in Malta, too! When the waves get bigger, you’d better get tougher amigo, and Tony Brio is here to take you to the next level.
Book surf fitness sessions every Tuesday at 6.15 at Wellness Hub in Mellieha. And yes, he’s got a whack of other classes available too.
Italian personal trainer Tony Brio just started surfing and quickly realised he could combine his new hobby with his old passion: working out and staying fit. He picked up surfing via the Malta Surf School route, and well naturally, he and Cicco just hit it off.
Together they planned a weekly Surf Functional Training Class to work on
- Endurance
- Fitness
- Balance
- Coordination
And it’s as fun as it gets. Using surfboards as balance boards, fitness balls, bars, and ropes he developed a circuit in his gym in Mellieha and each surfer moves around the circuit using the equipment to keep in shape. He’s on hand to show the routines and to provide that important dose of motivation.
“The main motivation for me is to keep the surfer fit, introduce them to self-training and to be tougher.”
Malta’s surf community is growing and glowing and movements like this help make it a tighter community, all with the same cause: having fun catching waves.
Tony comes from a pure perspective, explaining that “As a personal trainer, I am training and follow different types of people…I believe that fitness is sharing moments, understanding about the body, realising and pushing our bad engines and good endorphins.”
I love the use of “bad engines” there Tony, I am certainly due a service and a de-rusting!
