The Malta Surf and SUP Association

Surfers, unite! This tiny island’s got a new association, dedicated to the sport we love.

Five board members have collaborated to form the Malta Surf and SUP Association – and have applied to be officially registered and recognised as a Sports Association. The initial introduction was held at the Malta Young Sailors Club in St.Paul’s Bay with over 30 local surfers pooling in with new ideas of what they want to see in the association, before the official application.

The five board members:

President: Valerio Cicconi from Malta Surf School

Treasurer: Katerina Cicconi from Malta Surf School

General Secretary: Rudy Dorekens from Malta Skateboarding Association & Malta Street Sports Association

Legal officer: Alessandro Oliverio

Vice President: Mark Strijbosch from Bomba surf magazine

For a better surfing future

The main aim is simple: to elevate the sport of surfing in Malta… and under the main slogan “for a better future of surfing” the association will aim to improve our sport, give local surfers a voice and protect the environment. Through the association, funding can be attained to help set up better and more regular events, meetups and competitions.

The association pledges to promote the sport, and increase awareness around surf etiquette, highlight health and safety to avoid accidents, encourage environmental protection and also keep building the growing community.

Memberships to join the association are officially open, and members will already receive discounts for selected outlets and stores across the island, including

  • Oakberry
  • Billabong & Quiksilver Malta
  • Bomba
  • Vagus Health Osteopathy
  • Malta Surf School,

… with more coming soon.

President Valerio is as excited as ever, telling Bomba “The Malta Surf Association has been formed with the aim of fostering a vibrant and supportive surfing community on our beautiful island. We firmly believe that by joining forces and working together, we can shape a better future for surfing in Malta.”
